A question about a cockateil who is too old for a mate?

My cockateil just laid another egg, only it’s second in ten years. It is sitting on it and moved its food bowl to the bottom of the cage so it won’t have to move, I guess. Any way is it ok to let her have it for awhile even though it won’t hatch, and how can I keep from making her sad by taking the egg away, wont it start to smell?

You can let her sit on the egg until SHE determines that it will not hatch. It won’t smell if it isn’t broken and as long as you don’t let it sit in the cage for months.
If you let her sit on the egg until she is ready to quit sitting on it, it will not make her sad, and she might not lay anymore eggs. (Usually, however, when a cockatiel lays one egg, it will continue to lay more over a period of a couple of weeks).

I have a female cockatiel that is 10 years old and she is sitting on 9 eggs right now.
