How do I get my macaws to eat pellets?
I have read many times that the majority of a macaw’s diet should consist of pellets, and only like 10% of their diet should be nuts and fruit; however, neither one of my macaws (I have 2) will eat the pellets. I thought of soaking them in apple juice, but I don’t want them to consume too much sugar. Any suggestions?

I give my stubborn conure 4 pellets at a time from another birds dish to trick him into thinking he’s getting a special treat. This could be replicated by you walking by with your dinner on a plate and pellets on that plate. Let the birds see you eating your dinner luciously then generously offer them the pellets off your plate.
I don’t think it’s bad if your birds diet consists mainly of fresh fruits, veggies, breads and nuts. Keep trying to make pellets an exciting game or a treat to a job well done. Also use colorful shaped pellets like the companies Pretty Bird and ZuPreem.
