How do I get my quaker parrot to stop biting?

"Sunny" is 6 months old. There are many people in my household and he only bites two people. My husband and my sister. We can't figure out why he just bites them and I would love to get the bird to be nice to them so they can enjoy him too.

Well I wouldn't try that, I have a quaker who only likes ME period. Your quaker has the right to like who he wants to and who he doesn't want to like. Allowing him to be himself your other family members will simply have to learn to stand back and watch the bird so they can enjoy him too. It should not be manditory for the bird to be made to like everyone in the house hold. Don't make this that important to you or them that your feelings get hurt when you finally make up YOUR mind that the bird just isn't going to like them no matter what you do. Quakers are known to choose who they want to love just like we do, and we all must learn to respect that and any other pet we choose to keep. If your other family members have just got to handle him, then this is going to continue to invade the bird's space, this is why he bites them. You could however try allowing them people to feed and water and care for the bird to take their time earning, and gaining the bird's trust without you interfereing at all. But in my experience with quakers over the last 20 yrs, if your quaker bites those people, it's mind is already made up to keep bitting those people. And I will warn you too, your quake will bite YOU too if they are around and you try handleing the bird when the bird is upset and squawking at them for trying to handle it. Quakers are known to bite the people they love when they get nurvous enough and your trying to handle them when they show obvious signs of bobbing their heads up and down in warnings.

Don't make handling the bird so important to you like this and give the bird his own space and respect it, soon you will realise your bird is happier with those family members ignoring the bird and enjoying him from a distance without having to touch the bird at all. And take my word for it, you can try changing his behavior all you want, but it probly won't work. Maybe get another quaker they can handle. I only have one right now but have had many threw the years and have raised this one from age 8 weeks.
