It depends on what kind of macaw. Some of the mini macaws are relatively small (the size of a large conure), whereas a a greenwing macaw is much bigger (up to 35" in length, with a 45" wingspan).

Either way, your cage is going to be MUCH bigger than most people would expect. That’s because your macaw will need ample room to move around, and once you get the minimum number of perches and toys in there, a small cage will quickly become cramped.

For an average macaw (not a mini and not one of the largest species), I’d say at least 30"x40" (and about 6′ tall).
